Alden’s Kennels, 6810 Barnard Mill Road, Ringwood, is a great place to bring a dog for training. It has state-of-the-art boarding for cats and dogs, including 24-hour video allowing dog owners to check in on their pets over the internet from anywhere in the world. But, what about homeless dogs?
Actually, Alden’s Kennels has considered that question, as well. And, this Sunday, March 6, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the owners and trainers at Alden’s Kennels are doing something about it.
Alden’s Kennels, along with the McHenry County Animal Welfare Coalition, is holding a business exhibitors’ expo to benefit homeless cats and dogs in the kennel’s 5,000-square-foot facility.
“We’ll have Dorothy Vetrovec (with Natures Feed) doing a 10-minute presentation on healthy eating for pets,” said Janet Domrase, who owns Alden’s Kennels with her husband Al Domrase. “Attorney Karen Lavin is going to give a talk on preparing a trust to take care of your pet after you’re gone and Betsy Wells (of Spring Grove based Wellness Counseling and Consulting) will talk to people about coping with the loss of a pet.”
Domrase said other exhibitors include Criss Handley, of CFY Healthy Living, who will demonstrate chemical-free products to use everyday around pets and people; Fran Lambert, of Impressive Images; Frank Hosticka, with Pre-Paid Legal Services; Linda Lipinsky, with Shopping Genie; Pat and Paul Letizia, of Financial Dynamics; Fur the Love of Dogs from Spring Grove; and Riverside Animal Clinic are also setting up booths.
Alden’s Kennels Master Trainer Carlos D. Agurrie will give a dog training exhibition.
“Visitors will have opportunities to adopt animals at the event,” said Domrase. “If they adopt a puppy or young dog, Carlos will spend some time with them providing some tips on care and training at home.”
The McHenry County Animal Welfare coalition includes On Angels Wings, Pets in Need, Helping Paws and McHenry County Animal Control. Members of the Coalition will give three-minute mission statements for the organization while bringing potential adoptees to the event.
There is no cost to attend the Expo. For more information, call Janet at 815-728-0559. To learn more about Alden’s Kennels, visit www.aldenskennels.com.
