Homeless dogs and cats find homes at Alden’s Kennels Small Business Animal Rescue Expo

One dog and one cat were adopted at Alden’s Kennels, 6810 Barnard Mill Road, Ringwood, Small Business Animal Rescue Expo Sunday, March 6. Alden Domrase, owner of Alden’s Kennels, said another 10 applications for adoption were also submitted.

Along with opportunities to adopt homeless pets, the event included discussions , held in cooperation with the McHenry County Animal Welfare Coalition, included demonstrations about chemical-free products to use everyday around pets and people, presented by Criss Handley of CFY Healthy Living; healthy eating for pets, by Dorothy Vetrovec of Natures Feed; preparing a trust for your pet, by attorney Karin Lavin; and coping with the loss of a pet, by Betsy Wells of Spring Grove Wellness. Alden’s Kennels own Master Trainer Carlos D. Agurrie also gave a dog training exhibition and tips for those adopting a pet.

“Several participants have already asked that we do this again next year,” said Domrase, who indicated there is a real possibility that they will. “I think people had a good time and we did a little to help homeless dogs and cats in the process.”

When Alden’s Kennels isn’t pitching in to help homeless animals, they provide state-of-the-art boarding for cats and dogs, including 24-hour video allowing dog owners to check in on their pets over the internet from anywhere in the world. Domrase, and her husband, Al Domrase, have brought in Master Trainers Agurrie and Ashley O’Byrne. Agurrie and O’Byrne provide obedience, agility, conformation, Schutzhund, therapy dog training, behavior modification and puppy imprinting.
