Is it worth your time training your dog? That’s a no brainer

The difference between living with a well-trained dog and an untrained dog is monumental. That’s why the time you spend training your dog is time well spent.

Training your dog sounds like a lot of work, right? That depends, however, on how you look at it.

Yes, if you want a well-trained dog, you’ll have to dedicate some time to training the dog and on a regular basis. Consistency is the key. That brings up the common complaint of “but I just don’t have the time.”

While you do need to dedicate some time to training your dog, you don’t have to quit your paying gig and take on training your dog as your new job. Once again, consistency is the key.

The next complaint is “but I don’t know how to train my dog.” Thankfully, there is a wealth of information available to help with the process. Better still, employing the assistance of a qualified dog trainer can make a world of difference. Think of using a professional to help train your dog as a way of giving your dog training a rocket boost. Also, with the help of a professional dog trainer, you’re less likely to make mistakes that could, actually, retard the process.

Now that we’ve established that you don’t have to train your dog 8-hours per day, and that you might want the help of a trained professional, let’s consider if it’s worth the effort.

Living with a well-trained dog is a night-and-day difference compared to living with an untrained dog. Consider how much time you spend looking after and cleaning up after your dog. Simply employ that time to training your dog and you’ll have a well-trained pet in no time. And, with the trade off in time, you’re really breaking even in that category. But, there is another very good reason to train your dog.

There is no better way to bond with your dog than spending time with it and, in particular, spending time training your dog. Through the training, your dog will grow to trust you deeper. They’ll learn that it makes them happy to please you. And you’ll make them happy, too.

Often, feeling more trusting, they’ll need less affirmation; they won’t demand your attention every second of the day but will appreciate the time you do spend with them more. And, of course, it’s a different world living with a well-trained dog compared to living with an untrained dog.

If you’re going to have a dog in your life, why wouldn’t you want a well-trained dog that adds more to your life than it demands in return.
